Do I need to be Catholic to register with The Centre for Learning@HOME?

No, we accept students from all faiths. The Centre for Learning@HOME, however, is a Christian community.

What are the age restrictions to qualify for funding?

A student must be six years of age before the end of February 2012 and not older than 19 on September 1st, 2011 to be registered for the 2011/2012 school year.

Is there a deadline to register?

Students must be registered prior to September 30th to be eligible for funding. St. Paul’s Academy may close registration in teacher-paced, self-paced, and correspondence courses by the end of August but is able to accommodate high school registrations throughout the year in certain circumstances.

Is there a Kindergarten Program?

No, The Centre for Learning@HOME offers Reading Readiness@HOME. Children must be 5 years old before the end of February 2012 to participate. Call for details.

When do The CFL@HOME courses start?

An online orientation for all students taking CFL@HOME courses takes place on August 30 to Sept. 2, 2011. Classes begin officially on Sept. 6, 2011. If registered in Aligned Courses, the assigned teacher will contact students and parents as soon as possible after registration.

What is a FirstClass® Parent Account?

FirstClass® is our electronic school communication program. Your parent account will allow you complete access to email, announcements, parent lounges and program folders. This is an awesome and efficient way to communicate with The CFL@HOME teachers, parents, administrators and other families. All events and activities are advertised on FirstClass®.

What opportunities are available to meet other home schooling or Schooling@HOME families?

The Centre for Learning@HOME regularly organizes a wide variety of activities. These include physical education, sports teams, field trips, family picnics and academic and general interest workshops. Also, there are many home education support groups who provide for socialization and group activities across the province. The option of participating in secure chatrooms is also available to parents and students.

Is there a registration fee?

No, there is no registration fee. In fact, there is funding available to you to support your child’s educational program. Please refer to page 12 of our handbook (available from our office) for more information.

Will I receive an Alberta High School Diploma through The Centre for Learning@HOME?

Yes, students who complete the Alberta High School Diploma requirements will receive their diploma directly from Alberta Education. Counsellors are available for all high school students. The Centre for Learning@HOME celebrates a “Cap and Gown” graduation each year.

Is there additional funding for special needs children?

There is no additional funding. Parents home educating special needs children assume responsibility for the child’s program.
