How to Simplify your Homeschool Planning

Simplify your Homeschool Planning

Homeschooling can be a daunting task for parents who are new to home education, however, The Centre for Learning@HOME provides meaningful help to parents. If you’re like most families, you probably spend a lot of time planning out the school year. Here’s how you can simplify your homeschool planning process to make it more manageable:

Start with the basics

When you are first getting started, it is important to keep things simple. Don’t try to do too much at first, start with the basics. Home education enables parents to gradually add in new subjects and activities as you and your child become more comfortable with the homeschooling routine.

Set aside time each week to plan

One of the best ways to simplify your homeschool planning is to dedicate some time each week to planning. A small and dedicated amount of time will help you stay on track, and make the process more manageable. We at The Centre for Learning@HOME support our homeschooling families with their planning as needed.

Create a schedule

Having a set schedule helps homeschooling families stay on track. It doesn’t have to be overly complicated, but having a general idea of what you will be doing each day will help you keep things organized, clear.

Avoid over-planning

One of the biggest mistakes homeschooling families make is over-planning. They try to plan out every single detail of their homeschool year which can be overwhelming. Instead of over-planning details, focus on the big picture! Decide what you want to accomplish this year, and then break it down into manageable tasks. Families with The Centre for Learning@HOME are never alone in their educational journey.

Utilize resources

The Centre for Learning@HOME has a wealth of resources available to homeschooling families. Utilize these resources to help you plan and organize your homeschooling experience. There are online forums, websites, and even local support groups that can be a big help.

Be flexible

Homeschooling doesn’t have to be rigid, and there will be days when things don’t go according to plan. Learn to go with the flow and be willing to adjust your schedule as needed. Things will come up throughout the year that you didn’t plan for, and that’s okay. If you find that something isn’t working, don’t be afraid to change or simplify it!

With a little planning and flexibility, homeschooling is manageable for parents.
